The Dell PowerEdge M1000e series consists of modular blade servers that operate within a single shared enclosure – allowing for better resource management and cost reduction. Hardware Direct offers ready configurations of the two most powerful models: M630 and M640, but that's not all.

The Dell PowerEdge M630 is a design from an era when performance, reasonable power consumption, and flexibility were key. It supports up to two Xeon E5 v3/v4 processors with a maximum of 22 cores each, has an impressive 24 DIMM slots, and performs well in medium-load environments – for example, as part of a virtualization cluster, a base for backups, or a node for handling ERP systems. It can accommodate two 2.5" drives (SAS/SATA/SSD), and thanks to integrated 10 GbE cards and iDRAC8, it can be managed fully remotely – even without physical access to the server room.

The PowerEdge M640, however, is on another level. Featuring newer architecture, Intel Xeon Scalable processors (Skylake/Cascade Lake) with up to 28 cores per CPU, and support for NVMe drives, it makes a difference in heavily loaded environments – such as data processing, virtualization with a large number of machines, or intensive use of network resources. This version supports up to 2 TB of RAM, includes iDRAC9 and 10 GbE interfaces, yet still fits within the M1000e blade enclosure – meaning fewer cables, fewer power supplies, and better utilization of rack space.

The advantage of the entire M1000e series is that you don't have to buy a new enclosure every time. If you already use this platform, simply add another blade – it doesn't matter if it's an older M630 or the more modern M640. Both work with the same infrastructure: power, cooling, and management.
