FAQ

What scenarios is PowerStore best suited for?

PowerStore works well wherever low latency and a high number of I/O operations matter. These include VMware and Hyper-V virtualization environments, large databases, ERP and CRM systems, business analytics, and fast storage for backup, replication or disaster recovery. For simply storing large volumes of data, a cheaper solution is usually enough.

Does PowerStore support only NVMe drives?

The models on offer are all-flash arrays based on NVMe SSDs, for example configurations from 6 × 1.92 TB to 6 × 7.68 TB in the PowerStore 5200T. This is not a hybrid array with traditional SAS or HDD drives. Check the specific product page for the exact drive configuration.

Can PowerStore arrays be expanded with additional drives?

Yes. A single enclosure has 25 drive bays, so you can start with 6 NVMe drives and add more as your needs grow. Capacity can also be increased with expansion enclosures. Before purchasing, check that the drives and enclosures are compatible with your chosen model and its current configuration.

Which network interfaces should I choose for a PowerStore array?

It depends on your network infrastructure. Configurations range from 10GbE to 25GbE, including 4 × 10/25 GbE SFP28 iSCSI modules. SFP28 versions make the most sense when your environment uses a spine-leaf architecture or relies on high-speed switches. In smaller environments, slower ports are often enough.

Is a used, ex-lease PowerStore array a good alternative to a new one?

An ex-lease unit lets you deploy enterprise-class hardware at a lower cost than a new system, and the NVMe architecture remains the same. It works well when the budget is limited but performance requirements are high. If you need a full manufacturer warranty or the latest generation, consider new hardware. Also compare the warranty terms of both options.
