The Dell PowerEdge R360 is a single-processor 1U rack server with an Intel Xeon E-2400 processor (up to 8 cores), DDR5 ECC memory up to 128 GB, and iDRAC 9 Enterprise remote management. It is hardware for companies that want server-class reliability without paying for a second processor. Every configuration in this category comes with a 36-month warranty, and if none of the pre-configured options fit, you can build your own in the Dell PowerEdge R360 server configurator.

Dell PowerEdge R360 – who is this server for?

The R360 belongs to the 16th generation PowerEdge lineup and is the successor to the Dell PowerEdge R350. You get a more powerful processor, DDR5 memory, and the newer BOSS-N1 boot module. It targets small and medium-sized businesses and branch offices where every U in the rack is accounted for. The entire G16 family is available in the Dell G16 rack servers category, and if you are deciding between a rack and a tower chassis, the article rack server vs tower will help you decide.

Which processor to choose for the R360 – E-2414, E-2436, or E-2488?

The offering includes six variants: E-2414 and E-2434 (4 cores), E-2436 and E-2456 (6 cores), and E-2478 and E-2488 (8 cores). The rule is simple. Fewer cores with high clock speed, such as the E-2434 at 3.4 GHz, works well for ERP and databases, and with servers for Microsoft SQL Server, licenses are counted per core, so each fewer core means a lower bill. More cores are the choice for virtualization. A broader comparison is available in the server processors category.

RAM in the PowerEdge R360 – how many GB and why only UDIMM?

The R360 has 4 DDR5 slots and accepts only UDIMM ECC modules, up to a maximum of 128 GB (4×32 GB) at 4400 MT/s. RDIMM modules cannot be installed here, and the 128 GB ceiling sets the limit for running a larger number of virtual machines. Beyond that scale, look at the Dell PowerEdge R660. DDR5 prices have risen significantly in 2026, so before buying „with extra headroom", read how much RAM for a business server and check the RAM offering.

Drives and RAID in the Dell R360 – SAS/SATA, BOSS-N1, and controller

The front bays support SAS and SATA drives. NVMe on this platform is available in the BOSS-N1 module (2 M.2 drives in hardware RAID 1), which serves as the boot device, so all bays remain available for data. Three controllers are available:

  • HBA355i without RAID, for Proxmox and software-managed storage,
  • PERC H355 with hardware RAID as a starting option,
  • PERC H755 with higher-tier hardware RAID.

With two drives, configure RAID 1; with four or more and a high write volume, use RAID 10. Controllers and media are available in the server RAID controllers and hard drives categories.

What to use the Dell R360 for – ERP, SQL, virtualization, and file server

For companies using ERP, the R360 delivers the full package: RAID 1 on SSDs for the database, redundant power, and iDRAC. Pre-configured solutions for specific systems are available in the servers for Comarch Optima and servers for Enova365 categories. With virtualization, the limiting factor is 128 GB RAM, not the processor: this pool can be divided among several machines on a VMware server or a Proxmox server. For an HA cluster, choose a larger platform. The R360 also works well as a file server, domain controller, and network services server, and a single NVIDIA A2 card can be added from the graphics cards category if you need video processing or basic inference.

R360 vs R260, R350, or R660 – which model to choose?

The Dell PowerEdge R260 is a shorter chassis of the same generation for shallow racks. The R350 is the previous generation. The R660 offers two processors and RDIMM for larger environments. If you are still undecided, read the article how to choose a server, and if you are considering used hardware, refer to the comparison new vs recertified server.

Management, expansion, and warranty for the Dell PowerEdge R360

iDRAC 9 Enterprise is included in every configuration: remote console, virtual media, and monitoring without traveling to the server room. The motherboard has two PCIe slots for network adapters and other add-ons, for example from the network adapters category. The entire setup mounts in a rack cabinet and is protected by UPS backup power. Terms are described on the Hardware Direct warranties page. Not sure what to choose? Describe your environment in the server configurator, and an advisor will match the processor, RAM, and drives to your workload.

FAQ

Is the Dell PowerEdge R360 sufficient for ERP and SQL?

Yes, if the environment fits within a single processor and 128 GB RAM. For the database, choose SSDs in RAID 1 or RAID 10 and a processor with high clock speed. For heavier workloads, a dual-processor model is the better choice.

How much RAM does the Dell R360 support?

A maximum of 128 GB across 4 DDR5 slots, exclusively in UDIMM ECC modules. RDIMM modules are not supported.

Can NVMe drives be installed in the Dell R360?

According to Dell specifications, the front bays support SAS and SATA. NVMe is available in the BOSS-N1 boot module (2× M.2). Data drives in the bays are SAS or SATA SSDs.

Which controller to choose: HBA355i, PERC H355, or H755?

Choose HBA355i when the operating system manages drives, for example Proxmox. PERC H355 or H755 provide hardware RAID for traditional systems and hypervisors, with the H755 being the higher-tier option.

What warranty do Dell R360 servers carry at Hardware Direct?

Pre-configured options in this category come with a 36-month warranty. Coverage details are described on the warranties page.
